Congratulations on successfully completing your Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) with Shield Academy — an important milestone on your journey to responsible and proficient firearms ownership.
What Happens Next
Within 10 days of your course, you will receive an email from the Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (FSESO). Please check your inbox and junk mail regularly and make sure to mark both hello@shieldacademy.ca and all addresses ending in @fseso.org as “safe” or “whitelisted”.
That FSESO email will include a link to start your firearms licence application:

Preparing Your Application…
- Whether you choose Online or Mail for your method of submitting your license application,
You will need ALL of the following items to complete and submit your license application.- PHOTO: Have a photo taken and sized per the instructions. It is NOT the same size as a passport photo. (the UPS store or other photo service locations can usually assist you if needed – just tell them you are taking the photo for the purpose of your firearms license)
- FEES: Assess the amount you will have to pay for the licence. The instructions may NOT be clear on the application. There is only one fee required (you do NOT add the non-restricted and restricted fees together)
- IF you ONLY took the non-restricted class (PAL Only) choose that fee = $64.54 Total
- IF you took BOTH the non-restricted and restricted classes (PAL + RPAL) = $86.06
- IF you ONLY took restricted class (RPAL Only) = $86.06
These prices are Effective March 31, 2023 - 2 PERSONAL REFERENCES: Part of your application requires providing the names and contact information for two Canadian citizens that you have known for over 2 years.
- COURSE REPORT: Your completed and signed Course Report(s) received when you passed your class.
Collecting all the required items to complete your license application is a great way to make use of your time while you are waiting for your Course Report paperwork to arrive.
Other valuable things to consider is to start researching your Personal Safety Gear and look into gaining confidence through experience by taking a Practical & Proficiency course where you will learn hands-on use of modern day firearms and practical safety tips in a dry-fire environment.
